By and large, I think this debate ended a year ago. About the time we found out who would be directing the new Star Wars sequel (notanotherprequelohthankmySTARS). But I’m gonna dig up the old corpse and take a stab at it myself. What’s the harm?

So I’ll keep things short. Or cut them short. Ah. Ha. Haha.
Yeah, I’m not tired.
Anyway! I am hopeful! Not only do previews for Star Wars: Rebels look like all kinds of fun, but I just caught a pretty rumor about Disney expanding one or more of their parks to include a Star Wars kingdom. Or something like that. More than one ride and a sweaty fashion show, at any rate, which is effectively what they have now.
I believe Disney is going to save the franchise. Why? Quite simply, because Disney actually gives a crap about what the fans want (or at least more than a certain plaid-plagued monster with a vaingloriously named ranch). It is staffed with people who grew up loving the series, and they want to give the originals the justice they deserve.
Will we see more merchandise than Yoda can shake a stick at? Well, yes, of course we will. But how will that be different from the plethora of worthless junk manufacturers fobbed off on us before?
If it means the stories thriving in the hands of people who care, then I’ll happily suffer the Death Star Mickey Mouse Ears. Don’t kid yourself. You know they’re coming.
